The ensemble in Netflix’s “XO, Kitty” has struck a chord with yet another exciting story. Though the series focuses on high school students, a few of its cast ages have grown up. But what about the actual ages of the actors playing those parts?
Anna Cathcart as Kitty Song Covey
Anna Cathcart, 21 years old, was born on June 16, 2003, in Vancouver, Canada. She has returned to play Kitty Song Covey, a role she started at the age of 14 in the “To All the Boys” series of movies. Her character in the new series “XO, Kitty” is sixteen and facing many of the same trials.
Minyeong Choi as Dae Heon Kim
Minyeong Choi, 22 years old, was born on October 9, 2002, in Seoul, South Korea). The character touches on the guy who also plays Dae Heon Kim, who is Kitty’s long-distance boyfriend and similarly 16 in the series. He started acting at 11 and has been in a number of K-dramas.
Gia Kim as Yuri Han
Gia Kim is Yuri Han, a popular student at the Korean Independent School of Seoul. Although her full date of birth is not known, she is reportedly in her early thirties. Yuri’s character is between 16 and 17 years old in the series, making her nearly ten years older than the young adult she plays.
Sang Heon Lee as Min Ho
Sang Heon Lee, May 1996, age 28, portrays Min Ho, one of the elite students at KISS who would likely be around 16 or 17 years old in the series. Despite the decade age difference, Lee imbues his character with depth amid the melodrama of martial arts films.
Anthony Keyvan as Quincy “Q” Shabazian
Anthony Keyvan is a 24-year-old from Long Beach, California, born August 13, 1999. He appears as Q, one of Kitty’s friends in the series who is meant to be 16 or 17. Keyvan is also a familiar face in teen dramas, including “Love, Victor” (where he stars as the title character’s new romantic interest) and “Genera+ion.”
Jocelyn Shelfo as Madison Miller
The exact age of Jocelyn Shelfo has not been disclosed to the public, but he is believed to be between 20 and, at most, early twenties. She plays Madison Miller, a classmate at KISS who is also a K-pop fan. Madison is aged between 16 to 17 during the series.
Regan Aliyah as Juliana
Regan Aliyah, 25 years old (b. July 8, 1999, in Los Angeles, California) She portrays 16- or 17-year-old Juliana, a KISS student. Aliyah will also appear on Marvel’s “Ironheart.”
Yunjin Kim as Jina Lim
Yun-Jin Kim (born November 7, 1973) is a South Korean actress from Seoul who turns 51. The character she plays is Jina Lim, headmaster of KISS and Yuri’s mom. Kim is no newcomer to the game, as she starred in “Lost.”
Michael K. Lee as Professor Lee
Michael K. Lee, born June 5, 1973, in Brooklyn, New York, is now 51 years old as KISS faculty member Professor Lee. Lee has an extensive background in theater acting that adds nuance to the character.
Peter Thurnwald as Alex Finnerty
Peter Thurnwald is believed to be in his mid-twenties, and his exact date of birth is not available on the Internet. And he takes on the role of Alex Finnerty, a new teacher at KISS. Thurnwald was also a South Korean adoptee, and he grew up in Australia.
As other TV shows demonstrate, casting actors older than their characters is a tried-and-true ploy in XO Kitty. That leads to more seasoned performances, and that has its effects on the show’s success.
