Lavin, who was born on Oct. 15, 1937, had a career that spanned theater, television, and film. She started on Broadway in the 1960s, receiving her first Tony nomination in 1970. She became widely known for her role as Alice Hyatt in the CBS series Alice, which ran from 1976 to 1985 and won her two Golden Globe Awards.
After “Alice,” Lavin returned to Broadway, earning a Tony Award win in 1987 for “Broadway Bound.” She logged several Tony nominations during her career. Her television credits included roles in “The Sopranos,” “The O.C.” and “The Good Wife.”
Recent Activities
Even while she was ill, Lavin continued to work. She was at the premiere of her Netflix show, “No Good Deed,” on Dec. 4, 2024. She had also recently started shooting a new Hulu comedy series, “Mid-Century Modern.”
